I had just reached my car after walking across the sweltering parking lot and was looking forward to blasting the air conditioning to cool down. As I hastily opened my car door something said “wait”. I paused for a moment. Right in front of me, just a few feet away, sat a tiny yellow bird. She cocked her head at me, looked me in the eye, and started to sing. It was such a happy song! Her mate came and perched beside her then and he added his sweet voice to the symphony. I stood still and took it all in, awed by the beauty of it. There they sat side by side in that scrubby little tree broadcasting their message of joy to the earth. It felt like it was a gift just for me! Had I been in too big a hurry I would have missed it. But I didn’t because I remembered to listen.
