SPREADING SMILES

SPREADING SMILES

Sometimes it’s easy to forget to look at the faces that pass us by, to become so preoccupied with our own internal dialogue that we aren’t paying attention to the people around us. Recently I was making a purchase in a store and the clerk said to me “smile” as we were completing our sale. I was thinking about my two sisters with cancer and the sadness I was feeling must have been obvious. That simple comment from him was an important reminder for me. At the time I wasn’t even aware of my impact on him. but his encouragement shook me out my grief and helped me remember that within every single moment I have a choice. So I smiled even though I didn’t feel like it and a funny thing happened. I started to feel better! Though it didn’t change the situation I’m in, it gave me the strength to carry on. Try it sometime. I think you’ll like it too.
